 Portraits      Thursday, 5/8/08

I LOVE this AGE!!! 7 months has to be the best age ever. They can't walk and hopefully can't crawl. The little tykes just sit up and look pretty, so full of personality. Just posting a few quick ones, I have others that I will post in a few days.

Kayla.. a diva in the making.

Funny story about these white pants.. Ill post later. White pants+naked baby=funny times. :)

I am in a gray mode and bought some new paper, what do ya'll think? Actually... you need to see the others with more attitude.. so be patient. Speaking of gray.. I missed greys anatomy.. but I am not feeling it with the new episodes. Did the new writers really come back? It's almost like they leaped backwards and its... dare I say.. boring. I must see McSteamy naked next week. Ok back to original programming..

On another note.. I MUST go get Barbara Walters book tomorrow. Can you believe I did not buy it on the first day? I LOVE LOVE LOVE her. Always have. I remember her specials when she went to Romanian orphanages and documented all the available babies and how they sat in the cribs for hours/ days at a time. There was just not enough staff to care for all the orphans. Those shows forever changed how I think about pregnancy. ( That and Walmart on a Saturday afternoon.) She did so much for adoption and orphanages around the world, not to mention the zillion of interviews she did. All people can talk about is an affair with a black politician. I say GOOD FOR HER. She is human and unlike most people she is stepping up and admitting to it. I love Barbara Walters.. she is a an amazing woman and I respect how she has put her life out there. Fans like me, will devour her book and appreciate a great book by a great journalist. So take that! HAHA.. When I get it tomorrow Ill take a pic with the book while sporting my new red velvet adidas. You heard me, I bought red velvet adidas. I'm bad ass that way. :)

Lovin Lanvin
 Fabulous Finds      Sunday, 5/4/08

OK guys.. HUGE news! Barneys is having a ONE day sale tomorrow. 40% off!!!! Almost everything.

40% off everything except what I want the most, jewelry and Balenciaga. They said if they put the Balenciaga on sale, they would have NONE left. They have tons of other fabulous bags 40 off, like the Mark Jacobs, Prada, Miu Miu and even Lanvin! And the shoes.. my goodness there is a sale in Heaven!!!!!!

Yesterday I bought this lovely Lanvin necklace. I would have waited.. but last time I waited on the Lanvin bracelet I wanted, someone bought it! I just love love love all of his jewelry. I cant wait to visit the store when I go to Paris.

This is a shot I took myself with my little girlfriend camera. It does NOT do this necklace justice, you can't see the jewels. And the box is a much prettier shade of blue.

And LOOK at the box!!! You know how I get excited about packaging. Its art! I love it.

ONE DAY ONLY LADIES!!!! 40% off A SALE IN HEAVEN! DOES IT GET BETTER????

More important news...
Al Biernats now has Brunch on Sundays. We went today and being the first day I did not have high expectations. OH MY GOODNESS it was delicious. DELICIOUS! I had the lobster and egg burrito with avocado and bacon. I started with tomato basil soup which came with a bite size grill cheese sandwich.

I tasted the pancakes and they are the BEST pancakes I have ever eaten. When people catch wind of this menu, Sundays are going to be packed there. Next time I am going to try the Prime Rib hash. Or maybe Pancakes. Or maybe both. :)

Heaven= Al's Pancakes in Barneys during a sale sitting in a sea of handbags.

Flora Flora
 Daily Photo      Saturday, 5/3/08

Central Market Flower Dept:

" Hmmm these flowers look like Clams. I must have them. They would look great in these plant things that look like lettuce. I wonder if these are supposed to be in the produce department and some first day staffer put them with the flowers. Maybe I should get some croutons. Clams in a sea of lettuce, time to break out the Leica."

My house:

" These flower clams would look great outside. Lets put them in the pool, on their own little island of Flora Flora."

It sounded like a good idea at the time.

I did it for the cake
 Portraits      Thursday, 5/1/08

This past weekend, I drove down to San Marcos to shoot a wedding with the fabulous Laura Wootan. That was not a typo.. I voluntarily photographed a wedding. I was the third shooter, which was ideal! Third shooting is great, because there is very little pressure. I have a new respect for Laura and all my wedding photographer friends. Its not easy. It is a LOT of work with a lot of challenging photography considering constant changes in light and locations.

I found it to be a great experience and very enlightening. I found out it takes a lot of practice and I need a ton!

For my friends who believe I made up this story about shooting a wedding, and was really on a secret trip with my secret quarterback boyfriend, here is PROOF! Laura took these shots of me working very hard. Only real National Geographic girls break out there 500 at a wedding. It was hot out, I needed to be in the shade. haha

When I told Laura I wanted to shoot a wedding with her, she asked me if I was good with my on camera flash. "OF COURSE!", I told her. I can ROCK my flash. My flash and I are ONE. You can see me shooting with my flash below, the flash I bought the DAY of the wedding. At least I remembered batteries. Flashes are those big things that sit in your studio with cloth diffusers attached, not beams of light on your camera you are expected to bounce off wood walls 25 feet away. I'm just saying.

This is Stephanie and Junior, bride and groom, out in a field. These were portraits we took of them together after the ceremony. There were concerns the field wasn't a good idea...because of wet land. Being the wilderness photographer I am, I marched out there and tested it out. Thanks to Lauras advice of warning the snakes and WALKING LOUD, I steered clear of death via the sneaky Texas rattler.

Stephanie and Junior enjoying their together time after the ceremony.

This was at a place called Old Town.. in some small town near San Marcos. It had LOTS of wood and cool rustic places to shoot at.

Another field shot.

Thank you Laura for letting me shoot with you. It was so much fun to watch you work and see what goes into making those awesome albums you create. I just may be a third shooter again.. if you ever have a wedding with GREAT CAKE! :)

It's not easy being green
 Hot Air      Tuesday, 4/22/08

It's EARTH day, woo hoo! What did you do today for our lovely planet? I worked out, ( yay! still on a roll) trying to make the Earth a lighter place. For about a month now, Dawna and I have been making an attempt at being more Green. This year I started recycling more and making sure our blue bin was full every week. I'm amused at the sound of wine bottles smashing into the recycle truck once a week. In NYC I got us "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" bags, and recently we have been ordering more practical, reusable grocery bags. I thought in honor of Earth day I would post some of our conversations I have saved via text or yahoo. FYI Baggu's are these GREAT reusable grocery bags that a fellow dog friend recommended to us. They are very functional and stylish. I am going to be selling some and giving them out to clients. If you are interested, let me know!

The Green Diaries:
Last Week

DAWNA: Ok, so I had to use Plastic bags one more time. I went to the grocery store and it wouldn't all fit in my purse.
I left my I'm Not A Plastic Bag at home. :(

ME: It's ok, soon we will have Havanista Bags*. And I'm about to do the same thing because I'm not green
enough to put a roasted chicken in my Prada bag. hahahahahaha

DAYS LATER!!!!!

ME: I forgot my bags again. :(
DAWNA: Maybe we are only lime green.
ME: Snort!
ME: Maybe we are olive green, because I love my new shades. **

TODAY ( EARTH DAY!!!!!)

DAWNA: I used my baggu bags at walmart
DAWNA: I handed my cute lilac bag to the 12 year old check out boy
DAWNA: and he goes, "now what am I supposed to do with these again?
DAWNA: I said, um, just put my groceries in them instead of using the plastic ones
DAWNA: blank look, then oh ok.
ME: Oh my!
DAWNA: then he tries to hook it over the hook things that hold the plastic bags
DAWNA: and I am like, okay I will just hold it open and you put the stuff in okay??
DAWNA: then I give him the fuscia one, he is confused I guess because it is a new color, so we go through this whole scenario again

DAWNA: being lime green is a LOT of work

ME: (Insert all those rolling around hilarious laughing smilies.... )

* Havanista will be explained this week... Its a very cool new site. :)
** My new shades are gorgeous... olive green Chloes from Barneys. ( I had a gift card and I HAD to use it! )

Here are some photos of Baggu's. As much as I go to the grocery store now, I can probably save the earth by a few years alone! I can't wait to get my baggu's.

They fit into these great pouches so you can put them in your purse. THATS the idea.. put the bags in your Prada.. not a roasted chicken!

Chandler
 Portraits      Tuesday, 4/22/08

From my recent blog postings it may appear I am a professional shopper. I will assure you this is not the case. I do NOT get paid to shop therefor can not call myself a professional. I am still a photographer, even though I have been taking less appointments. I offer you proof with the adorable Chandler. I never posted her one year photos, so I am including them with this sneak peak of her last session. She is now 18 months and that has to be the hardest age of ANY child to photograph. They dont just walk, they RUN. There is no bribing, they don't quite understand the reward idea yet. Its more of a chase them around the room and pray type of session. Chandler was great, but she had places to be! haha.

With these cute outfits they always bring in, we are always able to get great portraits.

From the most recent.. "catch me if you can" 18 month session:

Look at this cake.. Isn't it magnificent? She never really dove into it, I am not sure I would have either, it was too pretty!

A box full of Happy
 Fabulous Finds      Friday, 4/18/08

Dr. Phil says something about addictions not fulfilling any real needs or solving emotional problems or some kind of nonsense. I know WHY I shop when I am stressed, the same reason I EAT when I have PMS. It makes me happy.
Does it make the problem go away? NO. It does, however, make me happier when dealing with it, no matter what Dr. Phil says. Lately my life has been a tad more nutty than normal. I have shopped and it has made me very happy. I can't get out as much so I have been spending the dough rae me online.

My new Favorite place, Net a Porter. That is where I bought the Thomas Wylde boots that I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. ( See just talking about shoes makes me happy! I have a little more joy in my soul right now. ) I bought a pair of shorts from them, which are so cute. However, I was fascinated by the box! The packaging of these babies was immaculate. Not just a box.. like you get at Neimans, this was a strong box with a flap and a magnet closure. It was very sexy and sleek. Yes, I just referred to a box as sexy. I know google search is going to take that last sentence WAY out of context.

Here is a photo I am ashamed to say as a Photographer I took. Its midnight, I had the girlfriend camera.. it does not do this luxury clothing delivery enclosure justice. It's a tad darker than this photo. Backdrop is my ottoman which also rocks this world.

It's the power of marketing... ( I didn't say power of the box) it made me want more. I am going to order more clothes... so I can stock up on these beauties and fix my closet/shoe problem.

This is the great part... the flap enclosure. Its one piece and that flap is a maget! You can see Stogie in the background.. he was so excited about this new discovery he passed plum out!

The shorts.. now an afterthought.. but they are GREATNESS! They fit great and you can pull them off with flats or heels.

I have also been shopping on BluFly, which Dawna heard may be in stock trouble. My advice, everyone buy Blufly stock and shop, shop, shop! We MUST save Blufly!!!!!! Below you will see why. I got this Rafe purse for almost 50% off. I don't know why Blu got it, if it was not selling well, or just a promotion but it's a WORK OF ART. Saving the best for last, my new, yet to arrive, emotional fulfillment. ( This was ONLY $175.. and it is easily a $400 purse). Ladies.. they still have a few left.. solve your daily stress, skip the nachos if you are PMSing.. just go to Blufly. Help yourself and help their stock. SAVE BLUFLY!!!!!

Domestic Duties
 Fabulous Finds      Sunday, 4/13/08

Last week I began hell month. I started working out with my new trainer at Lifetime fitness,Garret. He is a nice guy although on Friday I was cussing him under my breath. That is a good thing, the reason I NEED a trainer. Otherwise I won't go to the gym. I need someone to push me. I have committed to three days a week for the first month. I will be sure and keep you updated. Im determined to get back into my great dresses I own. They need to see the world and not be resorted to closet art.

I have never been a domestic one. This comes as NO surprise to those that know me. I have never really had to cook or clean or even do much laundry. I know.. spoiled. But now.. I am doing it. ALL. WOW. I have learned.. I CAN cook. A damn good meal too. I learned laundry still sucks and I hate ironing and will probably never do it. Cleaning.. I can do without.

So what does one do when she starts working out while having to frequent the grocery store everyday and making a half ass attempt at eating well? She photographs FOOD! :) Its art.. its food.. I ate it after I photographed it. A perfect combo! Yes, I am going to the grocery store everyday.. Long story. If I am going to be forced to enter the domestic kitchen.. I am going to a COOL grocery store. Central Market is my new stomping ground. I am the girl who doesn't even know what isle the food is on in my grocery store because I never GO. NOW, at Central Market I even know the short cuts. I know which custom Coffees I love, I know where all the great olives are! I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Here are my favorite things from this week.

Red Peppers stuffed with Feta Cheese.

Almond stuffed Olives. LOVE THEM!

These Lilli's were not even close to blooming when I bought them. A few days later, they bloomed and they are gorgeous! The entire house smells luscious and floral.

the pooches
 Crazy Dog Lady      Wednesday, 4/9/08

Grooming day! What a lovely, rainy, severe thunderstorm day for photos. Good thing we had the studio.

Both dogs were pretty tired from the day at Billi Bonze. Stogie will do anything, including hamming it up for the camera, for Goldfish treats. Goldie could care less. She does participates but with great disdain. :)

Wide Angle fun....
